I love Graffiti. I never understood the importance of Graffiti in my life until I saw this particular work.
I want to describe this Graffiti by an upcoming artist who wrote on a wall. The picture is a single line painting with one stroke from beginning to the end, and the colour green indicates freshness. Someone is resting on his or her hand under the head. The uniform density of the line means stability and depicts the meditative mind of the painter. The strokes convey a sense of belonging. The image conveys simplicity with a sense of tranquillity. The absence of eyes, ears and the mouth indicates that the individual is oblivious of the surroundings. The work depicts the free expression of the artist.
The picture is gender-neutral, and the subject seems to be in deep thought. There could be several interpretations of this line drawing. The painting conveys different meaning in different layers.
In the physical layer, there is an attentive person. You can also see a big smile on the face. The theme reminds me of the reclining Gautama Buddha at Galavihara in Srilanka. The disciple Ananda is missing in the painting. You and I are Ananda as far as the picture is concerned.
At the intellectual layer, one is conscious of what is happening in the mind of the subject. It seems this is a troubled mind. Considering the angle of the individual, one can safely assume that he is looking at some distant object. Again, it is the interpretation of the beholder which holds the key.
In the reflective layer, the person is trying to answer some existential questions. What is reality? What is the purpose of existence? What is happening around, and when does the health crisis end?
It is interesting to note how the painter can consider the different perspectives of the beholder and convey the appropriate message in a single piece of art.
It is not easy. I can imagine that the above art is the result of flow from a continuous single thought process. It requires a high degree of understanding of the human psyche and the ability to convey a sophisticated theme in a simple drawing.
I am sure you have similar thoughts on looking at the drawing.
